Backup responsibility
Assign a specific owner and schedule. A backup process is only reliable when successful copies are created, retained, and periodically tested.
Recommended process

Stop active writes
Perform the backup when production entry is paused or use the application's supported backup function.

Create the backup
Copy the approved database and required configuration files to a protected destination.

Verify and retain
Confirm the backup can be read, record its date, and retain multiple generations according to company policy.
Do not rely on a single copy. Keep backups separate from the workstation that hosts the primary database.
